LATEST NEWS FOR SHARON & DICK
Update Posted Thursday 16 February 2011
We celebrated Dick's 70th birthday with party at our place. It was a great success even though a storm threatened to rain on our parade. Everyone had a good time.

We are both in good health. Sharon had just had an ultrasound and everything is looking good.
Update Posted Wednesday 20 December 2011
We celebrated our good fortune at the Sheraton (Gold Coast) with an wonderful overnight stay and scrumptious dinner. We celebrated several bits of good news:
- Sharon's latest blood results are within normal range (a hopeful sign for the future).
- 12 years since we met.
- 40 years of me living at 31 Elwood Street Kenmore.
- my endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist by the Australian Psychology Board. (It had been a very long battle to get this registration.)
- Other good things are happening, but we don't want to bore you.

Update Posted Tuesday 1 November 2011
We have safely returned from our 6 week overseas tour. It was a really good trip. We managed to get all flights on business class using our Frequent Flyer points that we had accumulated over the years. There were no significant travel hitches or illness on the trip. The weather was good all the way. We had only one day of rain. The ICR conference in Southern Portugal was well worth attending.
We had three weeks holiday on the Nieuw Amsterdam trip travelling the Mediterranean. We had stops in Croatia, Greece, Italy, France, Monaco and Spain. Sharon is in good health and has made a full recovery from her splenectomy. We do not know whether or not her cancer is still active in her bone marrow. Her blood tests are good and her oncologist is optimistic.
Here are some photos of the trip:

Update Posted Sunday 11 September 2011
Sharon visited her oncologist and got her latest blood results. The oncologist was very pleased and said that Sharon could expect a healthy life span of 5 to 10 years or longer. We are going for the 30 years option. Nearly all the blood measures are looking good, or at least heading in the right direction. Her platelets have returned to normal range. She is feeling very healthy and her level of fitness is improving. The cancer may not be gone yet, but we are working on it.
Dick is working quite hard in the his practice and the client numbers have picked up after a short lull. He is still playing soccer on a Sunday and trying to stay fit and healthy. Next February is the big 70th birthday bash for Dick.
Over night stay Posted Wednesday 27 July 2011
Great to get away for an overnight stay at the Sheraton Hotel on the Gold Coast. As you see from the pictures, we are both well and thriving. Long may it continue. We had a 5 kilometre walk on the beach on Monday morning.

Sharon's energy and stamina are continuing to improve and getting closer to healthy pre cancer levels. She is now able to return to her joy of gardening. We continue the work of removing any possible remaining cancer which may be in the bone marrow and other places.
OLD NEWS
Sharon’s spleen operation: a summary of events Posted Tuesday 18 July 2011
Her platelet count is returning to normal and she has now finished the CLEXANE (anti-coagulant) injections.
Sharon had her spleen removed on the 30th May. We had hoped the surgery could be avoided, but the intensive Vitamin C therapy did not reduce the size of her spleen. The good news was that the vitamin C therapy did improve Sharon's general health and energy. She had her special vaccinations (for fighting certian infections without a spleen) a month before the surgery.
Her surgeon, Dr. Ian Martin reported that there were no complications from surgery. She had some splenic adhesions to her diaphragm.

These pictures were taken in ICU not long after her return from the theatre. Sharon's fingers show the "V" for victory.
Sharon's operation removed the spleen carrying the huge tumour with it's heavy cancer load. She was fortunate that it was removed using keyhole surgery. However you could fit a giant's key into the 9 cm incision. Sharon was discharged from Wesley Hospital on 3 June. Dick picked her up from hospital. She was so pleased to be home. She was very tentative and sore and had to be careful not to overdo things. She regained her mobility and healthy energy over the following weeks at a rate faster than expected. Maybe this was thanks to the vitamin C and the earthing recovery sleeping bag.
Her Oncologist, Dr Andrew Perkins, and her surgeon are very pleased with her rate of recovery and her improving blood results. There was a risk of a blood clot up to 6 weeks post surgery. She finished the CLEXANE (anti-coagulant) injections on Sunday 10 July 2011. One of the factors contributing to the risk of a blood clot was the dramatic increase in platelets as a result of her spleen coming out.
We will continue the journey to clear Sharon's body of the remaining cancer which will be in the bone marrow and possibly other places. Cell dialogue (dialoguing with parts of the body) and earthing are the most proactive interventions that we are using. We remain very optimistic about Sharon's recovery to full and vibrant health. Sharon's mother recovered after being diagnized as having not long to live with a similar type of blood cancer, so we are expecting Sharon's recovery to follow in the family tradition. We have our overseas trip to Europe booked for September-October this year including attending the ICR conference in Portugal.
A break in the treatment Posted 9 May 2011
We have just celebrated Sharon's birthday with an overnight stay at the Sheraton Mirage Hotel on the Gold Coast. We had a wonderful time and we have the pictures to prove it.

Sharon's journey Posted 7 April 2011
In mid March, Sharon's began a University of Queensland supervised trial of Vitamin C intravenous infusions. The trial was supervised by Assoc Prof Luis Vitetta. She received the infusions through a PICC line twice a day, five days a week, Monday to Friday. She received 67 grams of Vitamin C with every infusion. This was a massive dose of Vitamin C. It was designed to selectively destroy the cancer cells because they cannot metabolise a Vitamin C byproduct the way that normal cells can.
There were a number of early problems including fluid retention because of too much saline. Most of these problems seem to be sorted out after the first week. Her energy improved considerably. Still, she was away from home from 8 to 9 hours a day, five days a week. This was so stressful for her and there was no change in her tumour size or blood results.
Towards the end of the trail, she reduced her infusions to one a day instead of two. She meant that she was away from home for only 4 hours a day. This helped her be more relaxed and now had time to incorporate her other healing protocols such as meditation.

Love and good wishes Posted 15 February 2011
Sharon's illness has stabilised this year. She is receiving Vitamin C intravenous infusions twice a week and this treatment looks promising.
We thank all those who continue to give their loving support for Sharon's speedy recovery.

We celebrate Valentine's day on the Gold Coast
Happy New Year Posted 1 January 2011
Sharon and Dick wish you all the very best for a healthy, peaceful and exciting new year.
Unfortunately, there has been a downturn in Sharon's health. Her spleen (where the primary tumour resides) has been getting bigger. This may mean that her spleen will have to be removed. We hope not. We are doing intensive therapy at the moment and we are seeing some hopeful results. Sharon regularly attends her Oncologist and GP for medical guidance. She is also continuing with her other therapies including Ayurvedic Reflexology, acupuncture, Pranic Healing, Neurolink, healthy nutrition, supplementation, Voice Dialogue, Energy tapping, psychotherapy, meditation and prayer.
We have only recently started using two techniques which show great promise. These are; Cell Dialogue (John Upledger, www.upledger.com) and Earthing (using grounding mats, www.earthinginstitute.net). Our main target is to help the immune system get through the "Invisibility Cloak" of the cancer cells and get on with the job of clearing them out of her body.
We both remain totally committed to a successful outcome. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We are very grateful for your support.
Sharon and her Azaleas. A hope for the future.

RAA conference Posted 17 October 2010.
Sharon had a trade table at the recent RAA conference in Brisbane on the 16 & 17 October 2010. It was a great success. She caught up with many old friends. There was so much loving support given for her speedy recovery from the cancer.
Quote from Sharon; "It was good to back in action".

Trip to Girraween Posted 25 May 2010.
Sharon's birthday present was a 4 day stay just outside the Girraween National Park near Stanthorpe. We stayed at the Girraween Environmental Lodge. We highly recommend this as a place to stay. Photos show us by the "Chinese Wall" and morning in the resort's hot tub.

Health issues Posted 2 April 2010.
So far this year, things are going along well. Sharon's condition is stable, but she is still not fit enough to travel and teach. Richard has made a full recovery from his surgery last year and his private practice is thriving. He still enjoys his Sunday game of soccer.
We wish to publicly thank everyone who has given us support during these challenging times. It means a lot to us to have you giving us love, prayers and healing energy. We have learned so much this year about how the body works in recovery from serious disease and also how to prevent disease developing in the first place. We are looking forward to sharing this knowledge with others when we resume our teaching tours in the latter part of 2011.

TWO WEEKS IN INDIA Posted 3 February 2009
We spent the last two weeks of January in India. We had a wonderful time staying at the Kalariyil Dharmikam Ashram in Kerala. We received treatments and tuition every day from Kalari treatment experts. The daily massage was challenging because it was painful at times when they worked on blockages in muscles and joints. The basic aim of the treatment was to balance the energy in the body using Ayurvedic and Kalari healing principles. We had two experts massaging at any one time. Sharon had two women and Richard had two men working.
...
One of the nice things was that the water supply came from a deep well and was safe to drink. The Ashram was kept very clean, so people didn't pick up the dreaded tummy bugs when staying there.
...
We were treated like royalty by Swami (Sat Guru Hanuman Das) and his loyal staff.

We really enjoyed our stay. We would like to publicly thank Swami for his warm hospitality and generous sharing of his extensive knowledge.
We came back feeling more balanced and lighter. Nice to be back though!

Sharon & SharonIn Ballymoney we had a lot of people who had done SMART 1 return to do SMART 2. Unfortunately, the second SMART 1 didn't go ahead this time. Again the warmth and enthusiasm of the locals made carting heavy suit cases around the world worthwhile. Many thanks to our very special host Sharon Johnston seen above with Sharon Stathis relaxing after the workshop.
SOUTH AFRICAN CONGRESS (2008) GREAT SUCCESS. Posted 13 May 2008
A week before the LA workshop, we attended the South African Reflexology Congress in Durban organized by TSARS. Sharon was the keynote speaker with "Ayurvedic Reflexology" and Richard also gave a presentation on "Sound Healing".
The congress was a great success and a credit to the organizers, and in particular Yavanee Singh.

Sharon with Kasa bowl and Richard involved in an authentic, intense, meaningful moment.
Many people at the Congress asked Richard for the words to a song that he wrote called "I Deserve". The words & music are now only a click away
SMART EXPANDS IT'S TEACHING BASE
The SMART 1 & 2 workshops are now available for a wider range of bodyworkers. These include Massage Therapists, Reflexologists, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Nurses, Bowen therapists, and therapists using other forms of energy therapy that incorporate touch.
SMART workshops are of interest to anyone who works on the feet or hands. There are a wide variety of body workers who are already finding this work useful in their practice. SMART techniques can be used as a stand alone therapy or be incorporated into existing body work techniques.
INDIA, FEBRUARY 2008 Posted 29 February 2008
In February this year we attended a wonderful conference in India. The conference was called AYURVEDA AND YOGA: WHERE SCIENCE MEETS CONSCIOUSNESS. It was held at Rishikesh - In The Himalayas.
Rishikesh is located 8 hours very frightening drive north of Delhi. We listened to many interesting speakers including Dr Robert Svoboda and Dr David Frawley. We learned so much and bathed in the Ganges (The Ganga)
After the conference, we drove another 3 hours north and were able to see the snow covered peaks of the Himalayas through the Indian smog.
